When I share my stories, I want to know which one resonates with more people, so I can track and adjust my content strategy based on that. I also bookmark my own Build in Public tweets to write long-form retrospectives.

BrandBird

What does it do?

BrandBird helps you create a unique and appealing social media brand. Because I'm a huge fan of lively images, I find this tool efficient for adding watermarks and fun emojis that align with what I represent.

How to build in public with it?

Your choice of images give people an immediate look to who you are as a person. I would recommend using this tool to capture your audience's attention with a bit of character and charm on your profile.

ConvertKit

What does it do?

I've been using ConvertKit since day 1 for my newsletters and email courses. I appreciate that it is designed for creators so the features and user experience are straight-forward. It can let you send email broadcasts, set up email sequence, sell products, or even let your audience send you a tip and more.

How to build in public with it?

I've heard that it has the best deliverability in the email marketing space. If you want to share your stories in email format, this is how you do it.

Descript

A transcription, screen recording, publishing, and full multitrack editing software

What does it do?

Descript is a video and audio editing app that has made editing my class recording and interviews extremely easy. I love that it transcribes everything and I can just edit it like a word document.

How to build in public with it?

When I'm sharing my work through videos & screen recordings, I use Descript to quickly edit it and upload online. They also have a quick way to make shareable social media clips!

Ecamm Live

Video recording, screen sharing, and livestreaming

What does it do?

Ecamm Live is a software that allows professional recording of live broadcasts and interviews. You can also share your screen and use a green screen for your backgrounds.

How to build in public with it?

I use Ecamm Live on almost all my videos with the split of my face/screen share (see an example). I can easily switch between scenes and add text or image overlays as I'm recording. I also like using it as I interview my guests so there's a side by side view of both of us.

Hypefury

Schedule tweets, categorize tweets, automate retweets

What does it do?

Hypefury is a Twitter scheduler tool with a lot of growth features. Other than writing and scheduling tweets, I can automatically retweet my tweets after 12 hours, I can auto plug in a follow-up tweets when it reaches a number of likes, and most importantly, I can create a database of tweets to reuse over and over again.

How to build in public with it?

I use Twitter to build in public and share my journey, but it is so easy to get burned out having to show up everyday. I use Hypefury to keep the right balance between my real life and online presence. If I need to take a week off Twitter, I can still have tweets going out.

Loom

Instant video recording and sharing

What does it do?

Loom lets me easily record my screen and myself to explaining concepts or answering questions from my audience and students. It automatically uploads to the cloud and gives me a link within seconds.

How to build in public with it?

I often do screen recording to share my work or teach a topic. Loom makes it so easy to record and share and I don't have to worry about uploading to YouTube. Also, having my face on the videos also creates a personal touch to all the videos.

MailerLite

Email marketing, landing pages, email design and automation

What does it do?

MailerLite has a straightforward user interface that makes it very easy to set up your automation and email broadcasts. I also appreciate the ease of customizing newsletters from their well thought out templates and, of course, its generous free tier.

How to build in public with it?

You can share your latest open blog posts to your subscribers. You can also automate email content. It has a minimalistic and developer-friendly experience.

Notion

Note taking and task planning

What does it do?

I use Notion as a project management tool to help me stay on top of things. I have my todo lists, take reading notes, and also assign tasks to my team. I like that it has different views to fit my purpose, e.g. list view or table view.

How to build in public with it?

When I share my journey, I write a lot and I use Notion to manage my content library and publication schedule. Now I have a large bank of tweet ideas and newsletter ideas just waiting to be picked.

Easily take screenshots of tweets

What does it do?

This tool allows me to turn a tweet into a beautiful image within seconds. It makes my work look great, especially my blog posts. The best part is I can customize the background colors to fit my brand.

How to build in public with it?

If you like to use tweets in other formats like blog posts, books, guides, etc., I suggest using it. It certainly levels up your screenshots and makes it attractive for other people to read your content.

Collect and consolidate video and text feedback

What does it do?

Testimonial allows me to collect text, tweet, and video feedback from my customers with no coding. Copy and paste the code to show an updated Wall of Love on my websites all the time.

How to build in public with it?

I like to build credibility by adding new and updated social proof to all my projects. When visitors see the testimonials, they can instantly feel what kind of creator I am.

See and search best tweets from someone

What does it do?

Twemex makes analytics really easy and it’s great for new creators to see what tweets work well for all accounts. I can also use the search bar to easily find tweets from anyone, much better than Twitter’s default search.

How to build in public with it?

If you're serious about Twitter, this is a great resource to see how people show up and tell stories that get high engagement. The search bar also minimizes the confusion of looking for relatable content among a bundle of tweets.

If you want to build an audience on Twitter, the automation feature is great for minimizing your workload and burnout by scheduling tweets. It has a free tier so it is easy to get started.

What does it do?

ilo allows you to keep track of your followers, tweet engagement, and profile visits (see an example). It is mainly focused on analytics.

How to build in public with it?

If you love to dig into the metrics of your tweets, this tool can help you have a better understanding of what to share more, what format works better, etc. It’s useful if you want to tweet more confidently on the most relatable topics.
